Camellias, Quince, Hibiscuses, Kale, and Columbines

You will love today’s post with all of my favorite flowers this week! You probably love all the other times I posted other flowers too but for me, I especially love my red camellias, quince, and columbines. I have other random flowers like clivia, alstroemeria, and ranunculuses blooming too. There is so much to take in!

CAMELLIAS “NIGHT RIDER”

You may have seen it a couple of months ago but this time there are more flowers, not just one. How I LOVE this color SO MUCH!

QUINCE

I have two quince plants in my yard: peach and red. My cousin has a pink one which I had no idea there was such a thing. I couldn’t find anyone who had anything other than white, red, and peach. Since I don’t like white flowers, I didn’t buy the white quince. Now, I am probably going to hunt down a pink one soon.

Currently, my quince are small seedling sizes. They would probably do better if I put them in bigger pots. The red is in bonsai soil and pot. I was hoping to train it into a bonsai but I don’t think I have time to devote to bonsai right now.

HIBISCUSES

Hibiscuses is my number one favorite flower in my garden but these days other flowers like bearded irises, camellias, and gloriosa lilies are competing with it for the #1 spot!

Below, I have the “Black Dragon” hibiscus which tends to be a winter and early spring bloomer.

I don’t remember the name of this one but I am surprised it bloomed especially since it is mostly in the shade. I think I have about 35 different kinds of hibiscuses in my yard. Several are small seedlings and maybe blooming for the first time this year.

ORNAMENTAL KALE

An ornamental kale seed found its way in this pot and started growing. What a beauty!

COLUMBINE “NORA BARLOW”

These columbines were blooming like mad last year and their seeds were all over the backyard. Now, near the mother plant are about 100 more seedlings. I should dig some up and move them to other parts of the garden so that they can re-seed there. Nora Barlow columbines are the sweetest pink and white colors. When they first grow, they have a little bit of yellow on them.

CLIVIA

This clivia blooms once a year around this time. It could probably do better if I take care of it more. I’m not sure how I got this plant but I didn’t have the heart to throw it out.

ALSTROEMERIAS

These alstroemerias can be very invasive. Other colors are not so bad but these pink ones, they spread everywhere!!! When they are in bloom like this, they are magnificent to look at. In a month or two, all of this will die back to an ugly brown mess. I usually pay my son and his friend to go out and clean it up for me.

RANUNCULUSES

You’re not sick of seeing ranunculuses are you? I’m not! Oh, these are so lovely to look at. I never get tired of them.

I took some fun photos of me and Hunter today because the sky was gloomy and makes great photo op. (I needed to get a good picture of my hair to show the hairstylist I want it cut like that again.)

Actually, it was fun for me but not so much for Hunter. I did a selfie where I spin and turn to showcase my garden. As for Hunter, I don’t think he enjoyed being cuddled when he was trying to go to his corner to look at the cat next door. See how he was trying to get away?

No, mommy…no…

I bid you adieu! Enjoy the weekend!

  1. I love everything about this post! ♥ Sending you virtual hugs! 🤗 And please, for the second time, can I keep a screenshot of the camellia? I have the previous one you had shared, and it’s the best thing to look at in my phone gallery since it got there. Nora Barlow is also super pretty, well, don’t know which one isn’t. But this red camellia, sighhhhh… ❤
