Kangaroo Paws, Sundrop, Verbascum, Kale, Alstroemerias, Geranium, Epiphyllum, Roses, and Kwanzan Cherry Tree

Today’s post is filled with some wonderful random plants in my garden. There are a few new flowers for this season. The Ozark Sundrop, geranium, and the Kwanzan cherry tree flowers are new this season although they are not new flowers in my garden. My routine every day after I come home from work is run out to the garden to see what bloomed. I always have my phone in hand for taking pictures.

I feel very bad for the front yard of my house because I rarely go out to the front to do gardening or take pictures. The sun beats down in the afternoon so it’s not usually pleasant to be there in the afternoon. I kept missing a few roses out there. I did manage to get a great picture of my “Quicksilver” rose although it hasn’t produced quite too many flowers yet.

Let’s look at the flowers today:

KANGAROO PAWS

These kangaroo paws are doing well despite being mostly in the shade. It has beautiful shades of purple and green which are one of my favorite color combinations.

OZARK SUNDROP

I’ve had this plant since 2021 and it comes back every year. It blooms from early spring until beginning or mid summer. The rest of the year it has its leaves but no flowers. The yellow color is really cheerful and have always made me happy when I see it. I’m so glad it hasn’t died on me because I would be very sad. I don’t know who sells this plant anymore.

VERBASCUM “Southern Charm”

This is a great beauty and continues to bloom throughout the spring. By mid summer it will die down and re-surface next spring. Some of my bearded irises have buds in the background and will bloom any day now.

ORNAMENTAL KALE

Again, I cannot get enough of purple and green flowering plants. This ornamental kale continues to be a beauty.

GERANIUM “Pink Rosebud”

I LOVE this geranium! the light pinkish-lavender color is a DELIGHT to see by my front door. It is currently rambling wildly by the door. I love these rose-like flowers. They are tiny mini roses-looking flowers grouped in a small cluster.

ALSTROEMERIAS

These cream-colored alstroemerias are growing beautifully next to the “White Bouquet” tansy. Tansies look like mini daisies and it has a strange scent. Not sure that I like the smell but it has nice silvery leaves. The tansies I’ve had since 2019. They were one of my very first few plants. It continues to thrive in my garden year-round.

These pink alstroemerias are a bit invasive. They grow EVERYWHERE uninvited in my garden. I’ve had to pull them out in several places because they swallowed up my other smaller plants. The stalks for these are about 2 feet tall. Other alstroemerias in my garden are short, groundcover size.

KWANZAN CHERRY TREE

I was going to grow these as bonsai trees but a friend told me I should put it in the ground to make the trunk go bigger and then dig it up and turn it into a bonsai. I hope I will be able to dig it out next year or the year after without causing trauma to the tree. I ADORE the teeny tiny pink flower pompoms!

EPIPHYLLUM

For the next few weeks there will probably be new epiphyllum blooming every few days. This one is the oldest epiphyllum I have. This is the plant that started me on the epiphyllum passion. I got a cutting from my uncle and grew it in the same pot for at least 5 years now. The flower is ENORMOUS, about 7-8 inches wide. This flower is AMAZING if you see it in person. The colors are VIBRANT and HOT PINK!

ROSES

Below are some new roses in my garden. A few are small seedling sizes. “Quicksilver” was grown last year and is flowering for the first time.

“Quicksilver”

“Easy on the Eyes”

I have names for these roses somewhere but I can’t get it at the time of this writing. It’s beautiful and I love the purple colors in these.

I hope that was an exciting flower show for all of you. I enjoyed looking at it as much as you. Have a wonderful day whether it’s a Tuesday or Wednesday for you across the world.

        1. They need a really large container eventually and depending on the variety, some will need another tree to pollinate. You would need a self-pollinating tree. Mine is taking 4 years now and still no fruit. I don’t know why.

      1. I have a lot of tiny ornamental kale plants. My Ranunculus’s came up. One is trying to die. 2 look kinda good? One I stuck in the ground and gave a funeral. I hope it will come back. My Jasmine seeds will not sprout. I just planted some more after soaking them first. My daisies with the purple center came up and are about 3 or 4 inches high.
But I did plant Stargazer Liliy’s that have buds on them. I have some Begonia’s that have sprouted. We have just had a lot of rain. I haven’t put them all outside yet. I feel like I just gave birth to my babies ! lol!

        1. Don’t worry if the ranunculus won’t flower the first year. Mine didn’t either, in fact the last batch of orange and red-colored ones were from 2 yrs ago! Leave them alone and hope for the best next year. It does feel like raising a baby. So much work, isn’t it?
