Statice, Brugmansia, Clematis, Dondo Blue, Redbud, Borage, Hibiscus, and Spurge Flowers Garden

I wish WP has a better way to sort through old photos in the Media Library. Last night I sifted through hundreds and hundreds of photos I had since 2021 to get that poppy picture for the last blog post. Is there a way to sort photos by year? Does anyone know?

At some point, my Media Library is going to get full and I probably won’t pay them for more storage but rather just delete old posts and images. I am half way full now.

I was also thinking about changing the look of my post too. I was playing around with one of the themes that I liked. I may implement it at some point very soon. I’ve seen some of my followers’ photography sites and I really like how they all look so nice and professional. The creative me would like to take that next step with my blog but the lazy me is not always willing to put much time on it. Well, whatever it is, gardening comes first because I love my flowers.

Speaking of loving my flowers, I have several new flowers this season. They are first for this season so I am excited, as always when they emerge.

STATICE

These are re-seeded plants from several years ago. I have not had to plant new seeds, they just keep setting new seeds and seedlings. I love this purple statice. One year, I had various shades of pink and purple. I have not seen the pinks come back though.

BRUGMANSIA OR ANGEL’S TRUMPET

I’ve always known brugmansia is a highly toxic plant but I did not realize it also has hallucinogenic alkaloids that produces “violent and unpleasant hallucinations!!! WOW! It can cause convulsions that can lead to death! I had no idea. My mother-in-law told us not to grow those and we didn’t listen.

Aside from being deadly, they are very pretty in this delicate pink. It has a touch of lavender to the bottom and a slight tilt. They are blooming for the first time this season.

CLEMATIS “Piilu”

My very first clematis flower of the “Piilu” variety this year. I am just hanging it on my Red Baron peach tree for now, no trellis. I don’t want to grow clematis or vines on trellises anymore. The strong winds we get here always kill my trellis.

DONDO BLUE

Dondo blue is another plant that I’ve grown several years ago. The plant keeps coming back every year. In fact, the statice, dondo blue, and borage that are in this blog were all grown back in 2020 at the same time when I was in love with blue-colored flowers. I read something that said pollinators are most attracted to blue colored flowers.

WESTERN REDBUD

I inherited this redbud from my mother-in-law about 3-4 years ago. All this time it never flowered. Finally, last year I got mad and trimmed it down severely. Now, I have a little bit of flowers. The heart-shaped leaves are adorable! A fellow blogger and I agreed that sometimes we can enjoy the beautiful leaves long after the flowers die.

These might be the only flowers I will see this season. It’s not a very prolific bloomer right now.

HIBISCUS

Isn’t she a beautiful red/orange color?

GERANIUMS

The two flowers below are actually two different kinds of geraniums. They just look very similar. I can’t remember which they are.

SPURGE “Ascot Rainbow”

These are growing back again and they are about 3 feet tall. I love the nice chartreuse flower colors.

BORAGE

Borage are great pollinator plants. Bees love them. It is always swarming with bees. The leaves are delicious but spiky. They re-seed and re-seed forever. I’ve never had to re-plant these. Chicory is another plant I grew that has blue flowers. DO NOT grow chicory, they are the most difficult plant to get rid of. They are big and the roots are huge. Chicory also has beautiful blue flowers. I may share a picture of it someday.

I will end my post with these lovely roses. They have the most impressive petals and color. Have a wonderful weekend. See you next week!

  1. What lovely flowers you have in your garden. I envy you. Regarding your media library getting full. I had the same issue so I upload images sparingly. Have you considered making a YouTube video with your photos? Then, when writing about a post, just embed the YouTube URL. As a result, no media library space is used.  Just a thought.
